Knitting Tips Onlne

Hand knitting is a craft for everyone. Children who have mastered hand-eye coordination can learn to knit, teens showcase their individuality by knitting their own fashion accessories, people in high stress situations knit to relax, seniors wanting to keep their arthritic fingers mobile are knitting.

The benefits gained through knitting are innumerable. The zen-like tranquility achieved through the repetitive motions of pulling yarn through one loop to make another loop has been proven to aid in lowering stress levels. Like most skills once learned, dexterity is one of those things that if you don’t use it, you lose it. Manipulating needles and yarn encourages the fingers to remain nimble. Following a pattern, no matter how simple, helps keep the mind working to focus in concentration. The simple satisfaction of creating a unique handcrafted item cannot be discounted, nor can the love expressed in every stitch when the item is knitted with someone special in mind.

The image of an old woman knitting in her rocking chair churning out wooly sweaters, scarves and mittens has been replaced by women, men, teens, and children, alone or in groups, knitting ipod cozies, felted laptop computer covers, warm winter hats, lacey scaves worn with the latest fashions all year round, and socks that are so beautiful it’s a shame to hide them in shoes.

Yarns are not just thick and wooly, nor are they the plastic-feeling acrylics of years gone by. Yarn can be thick or thin or a combination of both; yarn can be made from man-made fibers or natural fibers. Silk, cotton, wool, corn, and bamboo are just a few of the materials used to make modern yarns. Each has its own unique qualities and best use.

Some lucky knitters were taught their craft by family, friends, or school teachers. Others learned by reading knitting books or watching knitting videos on youtube.
